Viogression

Viogression, esteemed pioneers of Wisconsin Death Metal since their formation in 1988, have established a distinguished legacy through their uncompromising commitment to the genre’s foundational brutality, technical precision, and atmospheric depth. The band achieved seminal status with their debut album, Expound & Exhort (1991, Tombstone Records), a landmark release that garnered critical acclaim and facilitated a world tour alongside Death and Pestilence in 1991.

Following their second album, Passage (1994, Progressive Records), which was released in an incomplete form, the band entered a prolonged hiatus. Viogression reconvened in 2014, releasing the EP A Pure Formality (Temple of Darkness Records) and reigniting their presence with dynamic live performances.

In 2022, the band delivered their third full-length album, 3rd Stage of Decay (co-released by Satanath Records, Moribund Records, and others), a triumphant return that blended classic old-school death metal with contemporary intensity, earning widespread praise.

Continuing their momentum, Viogression commenced recording their fourth album in 2024. Thaumaturgic Veil was self-released on July 11, 2025, following mastering by renowned engineer Dave Otero. The album explores profound metaphysical themes—including human consciousness, vibrational frequency, esoteric intent, and the interplay of awareness and reality—while remaining firmly rooted in Midwest-style death metal. It has been described in reviews as a cerebral, complex, and forward-thinking work that demonstrates exceptional instrumental proficiency, honors the genre’s heritage, and ventures into innovative sonic territory.

The band has maintained an active touring schedule in recent years, including an extensive U.S. run in 2022 supporting 3rd Stage of Decay, select performances in 2023 (such as appearances in Brooklyn and at the Day of Death festival), and a notable 2024 tour culminating in a standout set at Milwaukee MetalFest.
